What not to eat

An old blog from 3 yrs ago..reposted at a friend's request:

When you're feeling sick and you need some soup don't reach for Amy's organic....

These soups are not for people who aren't feeling well and need something gentle on the stomach...no, these soups are for vegans and vegetarians who want a filling, highly flavourful meal from a can of soup. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, but when you want something soothing, you better reach for Campbells.
I went to Whole Foods a couple weeks ago and got some soups to keep around. I chose to get a bunch of Amy's Organic soups because...they're organic. I took the chicken noodle soup to work only to notice it was not chicken noodle soup it was NO CHICKEN NOODLE SOUP! What the mess? Seriously? As I stopped dead in my tracks after getting off the elevator, a co-worker comes by and says "mmm, that soup is the best,(of course she's vegan) but be careful there are a lot of onions!"
I chose not to eat the soup that day, electing to go next door to Longs drugs for the Campbells version WITH chicken. I brought my whole foods soups home for use later...
Well, tonight was my later. I elected to cook some chicken to go with the NO CHICKEN NOODLE SOUP. (Yes, I have to use all caps, because it just isn't right) I didn't put spices on the chicken because I wanted it to be kind of bland and soothing to my stomach, and I figured it would pick up flavour from Amy's soup. I broiled the chicken, cut it up and then opened Amy's NO CHICKEN NOODLE SOUP...as I pour it out I notice very small noodles and then plop! A whole lotta onions..really, like a whole cut up onion was at the bottom of that can. I would like to mention that the can has a picture of soup that looks like chicken noodle soup, with little floating chicken pieces...however those floating pieces must be onions.. Seconds after lighting the fire the smell permeated my home..the fan tried in vain as the stench continued to float upstairs...I went to my room and sure enough, the pungent smell of onions was present. It was so bad I had to turn on the air conditioning. The soup should've been called ONION noodle soup. So I decide I can't even eat the soup because my stomach's rolling from the smell. I think to myself, "oh I'll eat it tomorrow for lunch...wait, WHAT??! No way, the onions would be worse!" So I take out the chicken chunks and dispose of Amy's overly flavoured NO CHICKEN NOODLE SOUP, which by the way barely had any broth and God forbid we add water to it since the can said in caps DO NOT ADD WATER.
I then proceed to open Amy's minestrone soup. No, this soup has no clever name, but again, I was expecting some noodles and vegetables. Nope, not Amy..she threw in some kidney beans and onions and peppers...nice and spicy...I can't tell you how great it tasted with onion flavoured chicken chunks :o(  I only ate about a cup full because I was too tired to cook anything else, but I had to eat something, because I haven't had any protein since the bite I had before I discovered the hair in my scrambled eggs from Bob's Big Boy.
So, the moral of the story...if you're not feeling well, bland is best and Amy's soups may not feel so organic in your stomach.
